A bit of a tweak here and there
I bought a great dress from a charity shop the other week which was perfect in colour and style but the neck stuck out a bit at the front.
I easily remedied it by putting a couple of simple tucks in the front
I had another dress that I wanted to wear for Modern Jive but when I lifted my arms, the short sleeves lifted the whole dress up making it very short. I just cut each sleeve up the middle and hemmed round so now my arms go up but not the dress.
I got some bargain plants on the market last week. Cyclamen were £1 each or 6 for £5, and the bare rooted wallflowers were 12 for £1. I bought 12 cyclamen and 12 wallflowers and the stall holder only charged me £10. It had been raining all day and there weren't many people about so he was glad to get rid of them.
The wallflowers are not worth photographing because they're only slips of things at the moment.

Great ideas on both dresses. The top one is all the "look" right now, too! Lovely flowers. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteGreat job on those two lovely dresses! Your cyclamens look gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteLooks like you got some great plants there.
ReplyDeleteOh, this reminds me that I really need to get on with my "to alter" pile.
ReplyDeleteThat was a bargain buy. I love cyclamen they're so pretty. A good bit of alteration work on the dresses.

What perfect tweaks for your dresses I shall have to keep these in the back of my mind for my charity shops buys. xx
ReplyDeleteI love cyclamens, what a bargain. You're so talented, I wouldn't have a clue what to do to adjust an item of clothing :) xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for another inspirational blog post - I made a Sorbetto top after reading your post about it (my first foray back into dressmaking), but anxious not to make it too small I've actually made it too big so I need to use those same tucks on my top! What a bargain your plants were - cyclamen are so lovely x
ReplyDeleteDo your cyclamens survive the winter there? I have one as a houseplant here.
ReplyDeleteLove both your blue dresses - tucks and all. You had an absolute bargain with your cyclamen and wall flowers - they're lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou clever girl. 2 simple solutions to two pretty dresses. Love the cyclamens and wallflowers are a bargain, they are a nice bright spring flower.

It is great to have some colour in the garden as we slip into winter.
ReplyDeleteYou are clever altering your clothes, I need to give it a try on all the many things hanging in my wardrobe that I have never worn.....I must be brave and have a try.

Clever adaptations to your dresses. I love the fabric the first dress is made of (I wish one could buy such nice stuff by the metre)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea putting the tucks in the neckline, looks very effective and so 'in' at the moment. You are so inventive Georgia.
ReplyDeleteYour Cyclamens look lovely and add some nice colour to the garden and I love Wallflowers they have the most beautiful perfume.......
