Fidget apron

I was wondering what I could make using some of my buttons and zips, and then remembered someone mentioning on a forum 'fidget aprons' for people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia.  I've made this one to donate to a local nursing home.
Basically it's an apron with various 'activities' to keep sufferers occupied and interested.  Just simple things like zips and buttons to open and close, and a shoe lace to tie.

I've put a pocket on with another button and a couple of pieces of ribbon down the side to feel.

  1. What a brilliant idea. Having seen my late FIL with the suffering of Alzheimers, I can see that something like this would definitely be useful. cheers Wendy

  2. GOLD GOLD GOLD! I can relate to this. If I find a stimuli I like it's a hard habit to break.

  3. Hey Georgia, I work in an aged care facility and have been thinking about something along these lines, though it wasn't in apron form.....

This is a great idea and I think they would be very useful. Must have a chat to some of the staff about these when I get back to work.....

Would love to hear any feedback about it...

  4. i've read that playing mahjong helps reduce alzheimer. it could be urban legend. but i plan on playing mahjong when i'm an old lady. this apron is an interesting idea. i should ask my mom what she does to keep active since she doesn't play mahjong.

  5. What a great a idea, and what a thoughtful thing to make. And at the same time, almost poetic, as this would be a perfect thing for a toddler too. Life really is a full circle.

  6. Ooh, that's clever. Think, like Mommy en France, that that would be good for a little kid as well!
