Toad you so

It's haymaking time again, and anyone who's been reading my blog for a while will know how much I hate it.  You can read about other years here and here.

Of course it had to be 27 degrees when the hay was baled on Tuesday, and we didn't have as much help as other years, so I had more work to do and my face was a very bright red!

This toad was uncovered in the field

Here's me not letting my husband take a photo of my red face

Meanwhile in the garden we've got a gorgeous smelling rose out

These campanulas are on the other side of the rose

and some flowers down the drive

  1. I love hay making time, the smell of the hay, knowing there is feed in the shed for when it's needed. Being 27 degrees would be hot for you guys, for us it would be the perfect temperature. I doubt my brother will have any hay this year as there has been no rain. It's very disheartening and when there is no money to buy any...I just don't know what he is going to do. Anyway at least for you it's over for another year. The toad doesn't look too happy at being disturbed. :) Your flowers are lovely, thanks for sharing.

  2. Hey Georgia, I'm with Anne on the haymaking. Love hearing tractors rumbling down the road on their way to cut and bale hay.
Then seeing the paddocks turn a patchwork of colour as some are cut and some are waiting.
27deg. about time you guys got some decent Summer weather, but I can imagine it just made the job somewhat harder for you.
Love the pics of your flowers, I think I can smell that gorgeous rose. Believe it or not my roses are still putting out buds, although they don't open, but still look pretty on the bushes.
Did you happen to find ratty and mole as well as Mr. Toad?

    Enjoy your weekend,

    Claire :)

  4. Gosh, I couldn't hay make in this heat...I applauded you! Make sure you have lots of cool drinks, alcohol can be included but not if you're driving that tractor!!! :) x

  5. It's so hot, hot, hot - but brilliant harvest weather. You should have some good hay so your farmer will be pleased. Not nice to work out in all that heat though. Flowers are lovely.

  7. Love the toad. I don't know anyone who enjoys haying!! The hay on our land hasn't been taken off yet! (Not our job! A farmer rented the land for it and is looking after it.) That's hard work. WE do help our neighbours load square bales into their hayloft, though.

  8. PS A lot of people here have air-conditioned tractors because it's invariably over 30C at haying time! The other week, people were haying in 34C heat with a humidex of 42C. Ugh!
