Just one Sorbetto

I've made myself a top today using the free Sorbetto pattern and a bed sheet I bought from the charity shop.  I thought the original was a bit short so I added 2.5 inches to the length.

The neck and armholes are finished with bias binding.  I've made my own bias binding before (without the use of a gizmo) and I kept burning my fingers when trying to press the edges in.  This time I just pressed it in half but not the edges to the middle and then pinned it on, folding in as I went

It actually came out a lot better than when I've pre-pressed it!  (and no burnt fingers)

I made this on my new sewing machine which I got yesterday (after giving my old one to my daughter).
It's really quiet compared to my old one, and just look at all the free stuff I got with it.

50 large reels of thread, a set of scissors and a few other bits and bobs.

Oh, if you're wondering what the title refers to, it's a TV advert for Wall's Cornettos which was sung to the tune of O Sole Mio - 'Just one Cornetto' (if you google it you won't be able to get it out of your head).

  2. I've been jibbed, I bought a new Janome two years ago and never got one reel of cotton with it. Mind you, with my trade in I got it for about half price.......

You are going to have so much fun 'playing' with your machine, love the top and if I had a hat on, hold on, there's a hat right next to me. I shall put it on ,just so I can take it off to you and your bias binding skills. Well done....... The top looks lovely and Summery, shall have to check the pattern out.

After 2 inches of rain yesterday it has finally stopped, but still threatening. The sun is even peeking out at times. Hope the weather's warm enough for you to wear your new top before Autumn...........

  3. The top looks lovely - did it take you hours to stick all the pieces together? I printed it out and then felt rather overwhelmed at the sight of all those lines and bits to stick together!

  8. There is no end to your talents lovely Georgia!
You have done a smashing job on this Sorbetto. It's a great pattern isn't it?
I've got is printed out, but I haven't made one yet - yours is very inspiring with that pretty fabric.

I love the way you've made your bias binding. I've got some of those bias binding gizmos, and think they're great. But then I never had the brains to try it your way before I bought them lol :o)

Love your new machine! I thought my new one was really quiet compared to my old Toyota too!
You got some great sewing bits with yours :o)

Take care Georgia, and enjoy your sewing this weekend.
